The Cause
We see in excess of 5,000 Ex-Offenders returning to our city each year, with no jobs…no place to live…no family support structure…no plan…and no hope. It is no surprise that crime and recidivism is so high (National Average of 70%). The burden on the Community is tremendous. Increasing crime rate, increasing jail and prison populations, increasing jail and prison budgets, decreasing State and local revenues to pay the cost of repeated incarceration, and increasing fear (and rejection) of Ex-Offenders by society…all perpetuate a cycle of crime that is consuming our Community.
Jehoshua House proposes to use its best asset — the ability to attract, train, deploy, manage and empower committed volunteers — to reduce the cycle of crime and recidivism in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area.
